A content larp for 30 players
30 roles are available. Non-transparent character sheets will be pre-written and provided a few months before the larp takes place complete with a high-level summary of the character and specific themes and content warnings; information about the character’s background, relationships, motivations, and struggles composed in the first person; and details of storylines they’re involved in. Players will not have access to character sheets beyond their own and should not share them with others. While the player interprets the character sheet as they feel is appropriate, we ask that major changes to pre-written relationships or plots be cleared with the organizers.
All characters are written with “they” pronouns and players choose their own character’s gender and pronouns. Nonetheless, as reproductive rights are a theme of the larp, several characters have been explicitly written to be/have been biologically able to either become pregnant or to make/have made someone pregnant, and players opt in or out of these options during signup. Players are welcome to choose to portray trans characters, however there are no transgender or explicitly queer storylines and these themes should not become injected as core components by the players. Cross-play is very welcome and player gender will be neither recorded nor used in casting.
Characters range in age from 18-58 years.
All patients will be assigned a chore group as part of gameplay lightly supervised by a member of staff, like tidying up common spaces, making beds, or weeding the garden, but players are not expected to actually perform the task as this is more about adjusting group dynamics.
Staff
There are 5 staff member roles: a doctor (the head of the facility), 2 nurses, a reverend, and a groundskeeper. They are also residents at Springwater and responsible for the patients’ physical and emotional well-being. While they have freedom to leave the facility as they please, they face similar stigma as “residents of Springwater” and have gradually become as isolated from the real world as the patients.
Patients
There are 20 patient roles: 17 have been at Springwater for more than a decade, several since birth. They know each other intimately and, while many cannot imagine a life outside of the colony, some have strong anti- or pro-colony opinions and voices. Additionally, 3 new patients are arriving at the start of the larp: they’ve lived their whole lives outside and now have to cope with the trauma and realities of their new situation.
Visitors
There are 5 visitor roles: 2 officials coming to inspect the colony and in control of decisions about its future and 3 journalists there to learn everything they can about Springwater and its residents, especially curious about the recent incident that resulted in two deaths. These are outsiders who come with prejudice about the colony and its residents and have the special ability to leave Springwater after the weekend and continue with their lives as a free member of society.
